Hello, I see that this this was posted three years ago. Is this still the one you use or is their a better software out there now for printing?
Still use it probably never use anything else. Unless something better comes up.
Oimage looks like it does a good job. I'm the photographer that took the B/W photo of the man with cane sitting while reading the newspaper. I did ask and received his permission before I took the photo. Nice that you liked it enough to make a large print. Would be even nicer if you sold it and sent me a few bucks. Took it with the Canon 5DII so the original file is tack sharp.
I only use awesome images like your to use as examples for perfect images for printing. I would never sell them. Send me your adress and I'll be glad to send it to you
Thanks Jose, for taking the time to do all these videos for us. I have learned so much
from watching them. I have a Canon Pixma MG5750 and the Canon Pro 100s
I use Light-room and now today also Q-image Ultimate with the plugins :))José, Do you know if Qimage One does resizing? There is no Ultimate for a Mac. I'm using ON1 Resize to scale the image to the final print size. It does an amazing job. Too bad the PRO-100 only goes to 25'.
I believe it does. Don't bother resizing in another software. Just set up your final paper size and image size and click on the image. Voila! Done.
Another great video. Great photos. I found out Red River is here in Dallas, so I need to go by and pick up some paper.
Ok fine, Tomatoe Tomato. Many people will commonly use Up resing but you are technically correct.
Wait people after all he is The Godfather Of printing to and ya got to love the man God Bless
A question on behalf of someone else Mr Printer. Does Qimage up resize jpegs also? I presume yes because these file sizes you refer to are small.
Jose Rodriguez Thanks 👍🏼 l will pass that info on.
Yes. However it is really designed for working with raw. Any existing jpeg compression artifacts will be magnified.
Sadly, I'm not sure I'm using the Qimage up-res feature correctly. If I just double click my image and type in a new resolution into the long edge box under resolution, then click apply, then done, it brings me out where I can then print the image. I didn't save out a new up-res'ed image, though, so you can still see the same image in 'Live View' and the resolution displayed there is the same as it was, and not at the new value. So if I print that isn't that just what I had originally? If I double click the 'Live View' image again I can still see the new resolution I typed in (and the file name at the top left shows the new resolution)..but if I exit out and then put the cursor over the 'Live View' image, I only see the original file at the original resolution. How can I be totally sure I'm printing an up-res'ed image? Also, is there any advantage to printing at 1200x1200 dpi rather than 600x600? I did one image that way and was pleased with the results, but Qimage gave some scary warning message about running out of printer spooler memory or something. And it started behaving weirdly. Confused in SC. Oh, I did check the Qimage help file but so far I can't find a clear answer. Thanks for any guidance you can give.
Since Qimage is such a different and unique tool, it's best to go there and ask specific questions.
Thanks. I remember you saying this in a video. Not sure how I got off on typing in that box. Off to find the qimage forum! Later.
It ius an automatic variable uprising. You are not supposed to type in anything. I load an image and select the paper size and the cell size I want the image to fill! That is it. The image will up our Dow reset to fit the size and set to the correct native resolution for Canon or Epson printers. It is not for you to upres and save. No advantage whatsoever and yes you run out of spooling memory. By the way, you should ask qimage question on the qimage forum. They will provide you with correct technical answer better than I could.
Hello Jose, do you think that Qimage upsampling and sharpening give us better results than upsampling on Photoshop (preserve detaisl mode) + sharpening in photoshop too (Nik Sharpener pro)?
Seems much better than anything PS does. NIK is VERY good. But what it does is to create Vectors rather than actually upsample traditionally and so if overdone your images will look like 'paint by numbers'
Jose, are you comfortable sharing your QIMAGE email address? I was looking into getting the program and noticed there is a spot to input a REFERRAL to give a year of free updates.
I appreciate that but I think have to refer you to them.
Yes. That is correct. I am primarily interested in the purge pattern scheduler, as I'm happy with Lightroom, Photoshop, and Canon Print Studio at the moment. I thought if I did purchase Qimage, giving you the Referral would be a way to THANK YOU for sharing your knowledge as I joined the 'Pro-100 PrecisionColors Printers'! 😂
So it's just as I thought. I would need to refer you. Not give you my account email. I would be the one getting the free year's updates.
http://www.ddisoftware.com/qimage-u/ The link is from this page ..
Sorry but Qimage owners are not supposed to do that as far as I know, It would render my copy invalid if someone tried to install it with my email.
The price is only $69.95 now and year's worth of updates only $19.95

Where did you see a referral offer?Hello Jose,
First of all, I must inform you that my first language is French and that I am from Quebec in Canada. So the text is translated into English using Google.
Qimage software and workflow
I always photograph in RAW and I use Lightroom and Photoshop.
I would like to migrate to Qimage.
I also do a lot of artistic photographic composition using Photoshop.
I've watched all your videos you've made about Qimage.
They are useful for understanding this software and will also be greatly useful to me when I use it.
Here are my questions:
Qimage has a very different interface to Photoshop. What I see in your information videos;
I do not think Qimage is the concept of 'Layers' if I understand correctly;
On the other hand, with the Qimage software, is there another concept that would allow an equivalent of the 'Layers and Masks' found in Photoshop.
Workflow
On this last point, if it found a limitation for the work of photographic composition, what allows the concept 'Layers and Masks' under Photoshop, what would be the workflow to follow.
Example:
RAW processing with Lightroom and saving in .PSD
Do the composition work with Photoshop and save .PSD
Open the .PSD document in Qimage to finalize the processing and finally the management of the printing.
Is this workflow suitable?
Is there another workflow to suggest?
Thanks for reply
PaulYou have pretty much figured it out. Yes, no layer support. So continue using PS for your editing and compositing. Shutter count software for mac. Export to PSD and do your final adjustments such as output sharpening and printing in Qimage.
Jose quick question please, have you ever printed on metallic style paper?
Yes. Dye printers produce the best most brilliant results. No so much with pigment printers unless they also use gloss enhancers. That said I am not a fan of the look. But then that's just me.
No one does it better Jose. Have a safe journey home. May be in for an extra day or two.
Our flight from Connecticut to Wash DC s canceled today so we headed immediately to the airport to try to get on another flight. It all worked out and we got home before the snow.
Very interesting video. Pretty amazing software. Thank you, Joe!
It has many interesting unique features and a sharpening tool that works flawlessly. Check out my Qimage playlist.
what is a good program for MAC printing like QIMAGE? currently using Photoshop & lightroom to print. On Epson R3000 with ConeColors inks. Thank you..Great videos Jose!!! Enjoy your time away mate!
@Jose Rodriguez good to know. I have the Datacolor Print gix Pro profiler. Older unit. It can do about 700+ swatches.
Produces great results on OEM media and inks. Switching. To third party inks and or papers, introduces differences that would require changes. With regular drivers, you would need a custom profiles ICC profile to counteract the changes. BUT.. If you have profiling equipment such as the Colormunki Photo there is a way to produces profiles that PrintFab recognizes and is able to print with.
Here is my PrintFab Beta video.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gFef25s5Q0AJose and Phil, just wanted to thank you both for your feedback! i really appreciate it!!! So, i download a 30-day trial of PrintFab (MAC) and i have to tell you i am really impressed..the colors are much more 'true' to my screen and the skin tone is really amazing..the fotos also look much sharper! I was going to go with a new P800 but i think the purchase of PrintFab will give me what i need for now..until the ink refill issues are resolved on the P800.
Works for me, and would be great to see you do a basic run through, even if it was the earlier beta..just to know the 'engine' of what it can do. I emailed them about support for Z3200, and yet to hear back.
Thanks and hope you enjoyed the wedding! :-)i know this is not the episode object .. but what do you think Mr.jose about canon Pixma g3400 and does it fit with wedding photographers who want to print at home with medium quality of images ? ??
Though it might produced semi decent prints, your wedding customers would likely complain about image longevity as these bulk dye inks at NOT the same level of quality as those from say, the pro100. Gamut will be much lower as it is only a 4 color printer. Maybe great for low cost documents but not for wedding photos.
you shooting your nephews wedding? will you print and show some images?
No, i said I was not the photographer. The girl's parents to care of that and pretty much everything else. I will take some video and some photos for out side of the family.
Thank you Jose for the great information you bring to us the Canon and Epson printer community. Love the prints!! your showing.
Connecticut!!! That's where I live!! What town are you headed up to? (When I try to reply to you, I get an error..I'm trying here just as a test): I'm in Middletown - you guessed it - right in the middle of the State. Simsbury is about a 45 minute drive north - very nice area. Enjoy yourself! Yes, we had that same storm today. Suppose to be cold tomorrow :(. Have fun!
Landing in Hartford them going to stay at the Simsbury Inn. Supposed to be about 25 miles from the airport. My nephew's wedding.
The fact that they were made from relatively low resolution images, is the truly amazing part. I am going to do some further testing with another software called Blowup 2 which also does an amazing job at upsizing.
Interesting information as usual Jose. One thing that would have been interesting to see would be a print the same size prior to the resizing algorithm, just to see how much difference it did to the print.
I did several Qimage videos that take your through the normal workflow.
Again; I will act on your advice and I thank you for it
On qimage the up sizing ' Magic ' takes place in the background so it's not something that you apply when you want. It just happens. It also works to down size correctly. Preservation of image is the primary goal. Their Deep Focus Sharpening is tops as well. Absolutely no halos and or artifacts.
Over the course of may computer transfers and deteriorating DVD's some of my original 13x19 images exist only as 3.5x5. Will this work for me? Is it inexpensive? I do appreciate your sage advice and expertise ( I will be buying the 'Color Monki' that you recommended as soon as my multiple job paychecks come in around the 17th).
It's about $75 and then you pay about $25 once a year for all updates which are issued as required for Improvements. The software is updated about 12 times a year. I usually update when medium of high priority updates are issued. I love it.
I have a PyQt app that draws a lot of simple square rectangles on a QImage. The 'draw a few squares' function gets called a whole lot of times and sometimes hundreds of times a second. (I'm emulating a primitive black and white screen for a retro-computer.)
Qimage One Review
I have followed the advice in the QPainter page, which says,
Construct and customize (e.g. set the pen or the brush) the painter. Then draw. Remember to destroy the QPainter object after drawing.
Qimage One Review 2020
So my 'draw a few squares' function creates a QPainter as a local variable, calls its fillRect() a few times, then exits (destroying the QPainter).
Is this necessary? My QImage is not changing. Would it be valid to create a single QPainter at the same time I create the QImage on which it paints, and use it multiple times?
